My journey with Chanel handbags has been a delightful evolution, a pathway marked by special purchases, vivid colors, and cherished memories. It seems that the journey has come full circle as I recently found myself pondering over the exquisite new spring Chanel collection. Though my wallet has yet to fully recover, I’ve recently added one piece to my collection, bringing a renewed sense of excitement and style.
This latest Chanel acquisition, while thrilling, was a rather impulsive buy. Like many of you, I find myself deliberating and questioning whether the classic size—such as the timeless medium flap—might have been a better choice. The construction of the medium size feels more intricate and luxurious, and it exudes a refinement that makes it a perennial favorite.
My Chanel journey began years ago, when each significant milestone was celebrated with a new handbag. From achieving sales goals to successful trade shows, each triumph was symbolized by the iconic black CC paper bag. My handbag armoire became a colorful tribute, filled with classic flaps in hues of blue, pink, and gold—each a visual reminder of a special moment.
My love for designer handbags dates back to my early years. Yet, it was during the decade I worked in couture denim design that my passion for Chanel truly flourished. Each business success was celebrated with a new Chanel, solidifying my connection to this iconic brand. This habit shaped my collection, from classic bags to limited editions, creating an emotional and personal relationship with each piece.
After years of collecting Chanel, I eventually ventured into the world of Hermès. My first Birkin—fondly named Miss Super Bowl XLVIII—was a “gateway” to an orange addiction. The appeal of Hermès is undeniable, yet it quickly depletes one’s budget; each piece, particularly the Birkins and Kellys, can cost upwards of $12,000. As a result, my Chanel collection slowed, with only a few special CC minaudieres gracing my shelves in recent years.
Despite my Hermès indulgences, Chanel’s new spring collection has pulled me back into the fold. I was especially excited to try the latest Frock designs, custom-made to fit each Chanel classic size. The highlight was “Lulu,” a Frock made from fine Chanderi fabric and tailored with meticulous details, including the iconic lip logo on the back. Lulu’s collection includes three other friends, each designed with the same level of care and elegance.
This recent addition to my collection brought on memories of earlier purchases and the excitement of discovering new styles. Yet, time and budget mean that I must be selective. I continue to curate my collection with pieces that carry meaning and remind me of special milestones. Hermès may tempt me, but my love for Chanel remains steadfast.
Ultimately, we didn’t capture as many photos of the new pieces as I had hoped—wedding celebrations, poolside gatherings, and a bit of tequila kept me otherwise occupied! But I hope this glimpse into my journey with Chanel and Hermès offers some insight, especially if you, too, are considering a new addition to your collection.
Will it be another Hermès splurge or a return to Chanel classics? Only time will tell. For now, I’ll continue to enjoy my collection, savoring each piece as a reminder of both past successes and future aspirations. Chanel, with its timeless elegance and ever-evolving style, will always have a special place in my heart—and my handbag armoire.
